Roofing and gutters

What each roofing and gutter service involves, from a single flashing repair to a full replacement, and what to expect from a certified company.

A roof is a system: decking, underlayment, flashing, the covering itself, ventilation, and the gutters that carry water away from the walls and foundation. The pages below describe each service, how a roofer approaches it, and what separates work that sheds water for the life of the material from work that leaks at the first hard rain.

After a storm, the roof is usually where a loss begins. Wind lifts shingles, hail bruises them, a branch opens the deck, and water follows. A certified company tarps first, documents the damage, and then repairs or replaces the roof and the gutters, flashing and trim around it.
