Soffit and fascia repair

The roof edge rebuilt: new fascia, vented soffit and gutters rehung.

What this covers

Fascia is the board at the roof edge that carries the gutter; soffit is the underside of the overhang that lets air into the attic. Both rot when gutters overflow, drip edge is missing or animals get in. The company removes the gutter, pulls the damaged fascia and soffit, repairs or sisters rotted rafter tails, installs new fascia in primed wood, composite or aluminum-wrapped board with drip edge over it, fits vented soffit panels or boards with screened vents, and rehangs the gutter on sound wood. Careful work shows in tight mitered corner returns, continuous ventilation that is not blocked by insulation, and finding why the wood rotted so it is not repeated.

When to call

  • Peeling paint, soft spots or visible rot along the roof edge.
  • Gutters pulling loose because the fascia behind them has failed.
  • Birds, squirrels or wasps getting into the soffit.
  • Stains on the soffit that show water running behind the gutter.

Questions people ask

Why did the fascia rot?

Usually water running behind the gutter because the drip edge is missing or short, or gutters that overflowed for years. Fixing that is part of the repair.

Wood, composite or aluminum?

Primed wood matches older homes and is painted. Composite and PVC do not rot. Aluminum wrap over wood is common and low maintenance.

Does the soffit need to be vented?

If the attic relies on soffit intake, yes. Vented panels or continuous strip vents replace what was there, and baffles keep insulation from blocking them.
