Plumbing fixture installation

Faucets, sinks, toilets and shower valves, set and sealed so they work and stay dry.

What this covers

Fixtures are the parts of the plumbing you use every day: faucets, sinks, toilets, tub and shower valves, garbage disposals and hose bibs. Installing one well is more than tightening it down. The plumber checks that the rough-in matches the new fixture, replaces worn stop valves and supply lines while the cabinet is open, sets the fixture level and sealed with the right putty or gasket, connects the drain with a properly sloped trap, and tests every joint under pressure. A shower valve is set at the right depth for the finished wall. Careful work protects the countertop and floor and leaves no drips behind the cabinet door.

Questions people ask

Can I supply my own fixture?

Yes. The plumber checks before the visit that it matches the existing rough-in and sink holes, and tells you if an adapter or a change is needed.

Why replace the stop valves?

Old stop valves often fail to close or weep once disturbed. Replacing them while the cabinet is open costs little time and gives you a working shutoff at each fixture.

Does a new toilet need a new flange?

Only if the existing one is cracked, corroded or too low for the finished floor. The plumber checks it and sets a new wax or waxless seal in either case.
