Sheet vinyl flooring

One piece of waterproof flooring, fitted to the room with few or no seams.

What this covers

Sheet vinyl comes in wide rolls and is cut to fit the room as one piece, so a small kitchen, bath or laundry room has no seams at all. Because the sheet shows every bump, a smooth plywood or patched underlayment goes down first. The room is templated, the sheet cut and fitted, glued fully or at the edges, and rolled flat. Seams, where needed, are chemically welded.

When to call

  • A small bathroom, kitchen, laundry or utility room where a seamless floor matters.
  • A rental or a budget-minded replacement that still needs to be waterproof.
  • An older home where sheet vinyl is being replaced after a loss.

  3. Fit and adhereThe sheet is positioned, glued and rolled; any seam is welded.
  4. TrimBaseboards and transitions, then a walk-through.

Questions people ask

How is sheet vinyl different from plank?

Sheet is one continuous piece with no joints for water to find; plank is many pieces. Sheet is harder to repair and needs a smoother base.

Can it go over old vinyl?

Sometimes, if the old floor is smooth and well adhered. Older sheet floors can contain asbestos in the backing, so they are tested rather than sanded or torn up without care.

How long does it last?

Quality sheet vinyl wears well for years in a small room. The pattern and wear layer determine how it holds up.
