What this covers
Linoleum is a natural product made from linseed oil, wood flour, cork and jute, pressed into sheets or tiles. Its color runs through the full thickness, so wear does not expose a different layer. It is installed over a smooth underlayment, glued, and its seams heat-welded. It suits kitchens and bedrooms and is softer and warmer than tile. Borders and inlays are possible because the sheet can be cut and fitted in patterns.

Questions people ask
Is linoleum the same as vinyl?
No. Vinyl is a plastic; linoleum is made from natural materials. People use the words interchangeably, but they are different products with different care.
Is it waterproof?
It resists water well when properly sealed at the seams and edges, but standing water should not be left on it. Bathrooms are possible with care; vinyl is more forgiving there.
Does it need maintenance?
A periodic finish coat keeps it sealed. Otherwise it is swept and damp-mopped like any resilient floor.
