What this covers
Porcelain slabs are fired ceramic sheets, large and only a fraction of an inch thick, with patterns printed and glazed on the surface. They resist heat, scratches, stains and UV, which also makes them usable outdoors. Because they are thin and brittle until installed, fabrication and handling need a shop with the right tooling, and edges are usually mitered so the pattern wraps the front. Matching backsplashes are common.

Questions people ask
Is the pattern only on the surface?
On most slabs, yes. That is why edges are mitered to wrap the face, and why chips can show a different core. Through-body slabs exist.
Can I cut on it?
It is hard enough to dull knives, so use a board for the sake of the knives.
Does it need sealing?
No. The glazed surface is non-porous, so nothing soaks in and there is nothing to reseal.
