What this covers

Fabrication is the shop work between choosing a slab and having a counter. The fabricator templates the installed cabinets with a digital or physical template, lays the template on the slab to place veins and avoid flaws, cuts the pieces with a bridge saw or water jet, cuts sink and cooktop openings, profiles and polishes the edges, and delivers the pieces for installation. Water cooling and respirators control the stone dust.

When to call

  • A new counter in any stone, quartz, porcelain or sintered material.
  • A replacement counter after cabinets are rebuilt.
  • A complex layout with islands, waterfall ends or curves.

Why must the cabinets be in first?

A template of the real cabinets is the only way to get a counter that fits. Measuring from drawings leads to gaps.

What is a water jet?

A cutting tool using high-pressure water and abrasive. It cuts curves and tight cutouts that saws cannot.

How are seams decided?

By slab size, the layout and where a seam is least visible. The fabricator shows you the plan before cutting.
