Glass shower doors

Tempered glass cut to the opening and hung on solid backing.

What this covers

Glass shower doors and panels are made to the opening, so they are measured only after the tile is finished. The installer checks the walls and curb for plumb and level, orders tempered glass cut to size, and sets hinges, clips or channels into solid backing or anchors rated for the weight. Frameless glass relies on heavy glass and careful hinge placement; semi-frameless and framed systems use metal channels. The door is adjusted to swing and close evenly, and sweeps and seals are fitted to keep water inside.

When to call

  • A new or rebuilt shower that needs a door or a fixed glass panel.
  • A curtain or a dated framed door you want to replace.
  • A door that sags, drips at the edges or has a cracked panel.

Questions people ask

Why measure after the tile?

The glass is cut to the finished opening. Tile, curb and trim change the size and angles, so measuring earlier risks glass that does not fit.

What does frameless mean?

The glass is thick enough to stand without a metal frame and is held by hinges and clips. It needs solid backing in the wall where the hinges go.

Does frameless glass leak?

There are small gaps at the edges, so some water can escape if the shower head aims at them. Layout, sweeps and seals keep it to a minimum.
