What this covers
An entry door is usually replaced as a prehung unit: the slab, jambs, threshold, weatherstrip and hinges arrive as one piece, with sidelites or a transom if chosen. The installer removes the old door and frame, checks the subfloor and framing for rot, sets a sill pan, shims the new unit plumb and square so the door closes evenly on the weatherstrip, fastens through the jambs, insulates the gap, flashes and seals the exterior, and fits casing and brickmold. Locks and a deadbolt are bored or installed and keyed. Fiberglass, steel and wood each have trade-offs the company explains before you order.

Questions people ask
Fiberglass, steel or wood?
Fiberglass resists dents and weather and can look like wood. Steel is strong and economical but can dent and rust at scratches. Wood is the classic look and needs its finish maintained, especially without a porch roof.
Can just the slab be replaced?
Yes, if the frame is sound and square. A new slab is hung on the old jambs, which saves money but keeps the old threshold and weatherstrip.
What is a sill pan?
A formed pan under the threshold that catches water that gets past the door and sends it back out. It is the detail that keeps the subfloor dry.
