An interior door is only as good as its jamb. Prehung doors come in their frame and are set plumb, shimmed at the hinges and strike, and fastened; slab doors are fitted to an existing jamb with hinges mortised and the latch bored. The carpenter adjusts the gap so the door swings freely and latches, installs the knob or lever, and cases the opening. Solid-core doors add quiet and weight.

Prehung for new openings or when the old jamb is damaged. Slab when the existing jamb is good and only the door is changing.
Why does my door swing on its own?
The jamb is out of plumb. Resetting the hinges or the jamb fixes it.
Solid or hollow core?
Solid core is heavier, quieter and feels better. Hollow core is lighter and less expensive. Bedrooms and baths benefit most from solid.
