What this covers
Building up adds space without using the yard, but it asks a lot of the structure below. The work starts with engineering, then strengthening the foundation and first-floor walls as needed, removing the roof, framing the new floor, walls and roof quickly under temporary protection, and finishing inside and out. Workers on the structure use proper staging and fall protection throughout.

Questions people ask
Do we have to move out?
Often yes, at least while the roof is off and the floor is framed. The company tells you the window when it has the schedule.
How is the house protected while the roof is off?
Temporary roofing and tarps are fitted each day, and the framing phase is scheduled for dry weather. Even so, it is the riskiest part of the job and the company plans it closely.
Where does the stair go?
The stair takes floor space from the first floor. Its location is decided in design, and it often shapes the whole layout.
