What this covers
Concrete steps carry people to the door every day, so an even rise and a solid base matter more than anything decorative. The company removes the old steps, sets a footing or compacted base below frost depth where the climate requires it, and builds forms so every riser is the same height and every tread the same depth within the tolerance code allows. The concrete is poured in one lift, consolidated, and finished with crisp or rounded nosings and a textured tread. Handrail posts are set in sleeves or anchored afterward, and the landing is sloped slightly to drain. Steps that settle or pull away from the house are usually a base problem rather than a concrete problem.

Questions people ask
Do steps need a handrail?
Codes generally require a handrail once a stair has a certain number of risers, and they set its height. The company builds to the local rule.
Can old steps be resurfaced instead of replaced?
Sound steps with surface spalling can be resurfaced with a bonded overlay. Steps that have settled, cracked through or separated from the house are replaced.
Why are the risers uneven on my old steps?
Often the steps settled on one side, or the walk at the bottom heaved. Resetting the base and repouring corrects the geometry.
